The aim of this project is to preserve African cultural heritage for future generations and make knowledge of these traditions, customs and acquired wisdom available to the public. Specifically, the objective is to digitize the collected works from the estate of  Gambian researcher and author Bakary SidibĂ©, who during his life collected hundreds of recordings from epics, genealogies, songs and historical information from the oral and artistic traditions of the people of Guinea Bissau, Casamance and Gambia, the former empire of Kabu. He contributed immensely to the documentation of the oral history and traditions dating from the colonial and post-colonial periods. He later became an important disseminator of cultural heritage in his country and beyond. After digitization, the aim is also to relocate this private archive from the urban center of Gambia to the birthplace of its founder Bakary SidibĂ© on McCarthy Island Janjanbureh in the Central River Division.
